The story follows Sartika, a young, pregnant woman who leaves her city for a coastal village on the North Coast of Java (Pantura) hoping to provide a better future for her child. She finds help from a coffee shop owner named Maya. After giving birth, Sartika is manipulated into working as a "kopi pangku" waitress, a job requiring women to sit on men's laps while serving coffee. Her life takes a significant turn when she meets Hadi, a kind fish distributor truck driver, and falls in love, leading to a complex journey of survival and an unflinching look at the harsh realities of life on the social margins.
