After his wife, Nat, dies from an illness caused by dust pollution, a husband named March discovers her spirit has possessed a vacuum cleaner. As he begins to develop symptoms of the same disease, his family is disturbed by his relationship with the spectral vacuum cleaner. To win them over, Nat must prove her worth as a "useful ghost" by dealing with the spirits of former factory workers haunting other appliances.
